By converting your D-Link DIR-850L into a repeater, you breathe new life into an older device while effectively eliminating wireless dead spots in your home network.
By default, the DIR-850L uses 192.168.0.1 . If your main router also uses 192.168.0.1 , your network will experience a collision, causing the internet to drop. Go to > Network (or Setup > Network Settings ).
Plug the DIR-850L into a power outlet near your computer for the initial setup. Do not connect it to your main router via Ethernet yet.
Once the router reboots in repeater mode, log back into the interface using Step 3. Go back to > Wireless Setup . Click the Site Survey button to scan for nearby networks. Select your main router's Wi-Fi network from the list.
In the address bar, type http://dlinkrouter.local or 192.168.0.1 and press Enter.
Click and allow the router to reboot if prompted. Step 5: Connect to the Main Network

Disconnect the Ethernet cable from your computer. Move the DIR-850L to its permanent location.
Select your primary Wi-Fi network's SSID and enter its password.
Worth trying if you already own the DIR-850L. Otherwise, buy a dedicated extender or upgrade to a mesh system.
Click on the tab at the top, then select Wireless Setup from the left-hand menu.

Check your main router’s client list to find the new IP address assigned to the D-Link device.
: If you've used the router before, hold the reset button for 10 seconds until the lights flash to ensure a clean slate. Ethernet Connection
: Go to Settings > Internet . Change the "Connection Mode" or "My Internet Connection is" to Wireless Repeater or WISP .
Disclaimer: Some users have reported issues with older firmware versions regarding stability in repeater mode. If you face issues, ensure you are using the latest B1 or B2 revision firmware.
